Ste. Anne MDâs sexual assault trial adjourned again to locate missing evidence
The trial for a rural doctor charged with sexual assault was adjourned for the second consecutive day Tuesday morning, to give Crown prosecutors time to obtain evidence the defence is seeking from the Sainte-Anne Police Service. Dr. Arcel Bissonnette is charged with 22 counts of sexual assault for alleged offences against several female patients when he worked in Ste. Anne, a town southeast of Winnipeg, between 2004 and 2017. He was initially charged in 2020 with six counts, before additional complainants stepped forward and he was charged with 16 more offences in 2021. The College of Physicians and Surgeons of Manitoba barred him from practising medicine when he was first charged.© Winnipeg Free Press |
